Louffa Press is pleased to announce a very special event scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 at 3pm to be held at the BGSQD (Bureau of General Services Queer Division) in New York City.
The event doubles as a celebration and open forum on the current epidemic of book-banning.
Writers and participants include:
BEATRIZ ALBUQUERQUE, ROBERT ANTHONY GIBBONS, JEE LEONG KOH, MATTHEW LANSBURGH, PACO MARQUEZ, CLAUDIA SEREA, AND TRIPHOBIA.
The open forum will include a dialogue with the audience centered on the current trend of book-banning, particularly the banning of books by LGBTQ or POC authors; the reason is that 41% of content being banned/challenged is LGBTQ, and 40% of the challenged books have protagonists or prominent secondary characters of color. (Source: PEN America, data from June 2021 - July 2022)
We need your voice to put a stop to book-banning in our United States.
This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
